Here is a step-by-step guide on how to use Storm Racks:
1. OPTIMIZE YOUR SETTINGS
- Switch to Vertical Target Assist: Go to your control settings and change your aim assist from "Wide" to "Vertical". Wide assist automatically locks onto the enemy's center, which ruins your ability to aim at the floor or side walls.
- Adjust Sensitivity: Fine-tune your camera sensitivity so you can quickly flick away from a Mech to hit nearby structures.
2. STRATEGIC AIMING & SPLASH ABUSE
- Shoot the Floor and Walls: Always aim for the ground at the Mech's feet or at a wall directly behind or beside them.
- Fish for "Back Attack" Damage: If an enemy is facing you, fire your rockets at the wall or ground behind them. The resulting explosion will trigger a rear-directed blast, dealing massive Back Attack bonus damage.
- Bypass Shields: Splash damage allows you to damage Mechs by shooting right next to physical or energy shields without having to break them head-on. Additionally, Storm Racks inherently deal 50% more damage to shields.
3. STAR RANK & RADIUS THRESHOLDS
- Rank Up to 5 Stars ASAP: Low-rank (3-star) Storm Racks only have a 4.4-meter blast radius, making them incredibly punishing if you miss. Once you reach 5 stars or higher, the radius jumps to 7.5 meters, significantly increasing your room for error.
- Get the Dual Copy: For heavy variants (10 energy or higher), you will need to upgrade the weapon to 6 stars to unlock the dual-wield copy for your loadout.
4. MUST-HAVE PILOT IMPLANTS
- Legendary Reload Implant: This is mandatory. Storm Racks have a brutal base reload time of 11 seconds. The Legendary Reload Implant cuts this down, transforming the Weapon from a slow burst tool into a relentless DPS machine.
- Explosive Radius Implant: Equipping a Epic or Legendary Radius Implant expands your splash zone even further, allowing you to flush enemies out of deep cover easily.
5. BEST MECHS FOR STORM RACKS
- Orion: Combining Orion's Hunter's Mark (which amplifies damage taken by the target) with a Storm Rack salvo results in immediate, instantaneous kills on almost any Mech.
- Zephyr / Surge: Use their Stun/Shock Pulse abilities to lock an enemy completely in place, then step slightly around or behind them to dump a perfect splash salvo.
- Lancer / Redeemer: High-mobility Mechs with shoulder-mounted hardpoints are excellent choices. Lancer can jump into the air and fire straight down at the ground, guaranteeing maximum splash and back-attack registration.
